VULCAN Galvanized Tanks Factory Mutual Certificate

The sizes of tanks covered in this Approval range in diameter from 15-60ft and in height from 12-40ft.

The roofs are designed to withstand a live load (snow load) of 15psf (0.75kNm-2) and the tank shell designed to withstand a wind load of 100mph in a non-seismic zone (FM Approvals Earthquake Zone > 500).

The range of tanks and their capacities can be seen on the chart overleaf. Intermediate capacities are available when a half height top sheet is provided.

VULCAN Galvanized Tank Liner Data Sheet

LPCB Type Ae and FM approved fire sprinkler tanks as manufactured by CST Vulcan incorporate a rubber liner manufactured from material generally known as EPDM. This material is not WRC approved for use with potable water.

A BUTYL rubber liner manufactured from material that has received WRC approval (BS6920) and is listed by the Water Byelaws Scheme as approved for use in contact with potable water is available for lining potable water tanks.

AQUASTORE Life Cycle Analysis Bulletin

Recently, some marketing messages have been circulated indicating that the use of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis tools to justify the long-tem savings of purchasing an Aquastore glass-fused-to-steel tank are “invalid.” The question concerning Aquastore’s lowest lifetime cost of ownership stems from a competitor’s statement that “this review (LCC) is not credible and is designed to promote a single glass tank product in the marketplace.”

The use of LCC for product evaluation is quite common. The UK Government’s Office of Government Commerce (OGC) uses LCC because “the visible costs of any purchase represent only a small proportion of the total cost of ownership,” and that reinforces the credibility of the LCC. The fact that the LCC points to Aquastore tanks as having the lowest long-term costs is INCREDIBLE. But don’t take our word for it, perform an LCC analysis yourself.

AQUASTORE Stop Painting Start Saving Bulletin

AQUASTORE Tank Service Life Bulletin

When conducting a life cycle cost (LCC) analysis for a storage tank, estimating the life expectancy of the tank is very important. Life expectancy affects the period of evaluation, salvage value and ultimately the total life cycle cost. There are several different ways of reliably estimating tank life. A recent article by Mr. Bill Neighbors in the July 2010 Water and Wastes Digest titled “Specify Wisely” is one method, purely the opinion of one supplier, that appears to lack substantiated third-party accreditation.

The table below (Figure 1) from the “Specify Wisely” article describes a concept called PDT (Plate Design Thickness) to estimate tank life, but does not detail how PDT is calculated and does not reference any third-party independent source that recognizes the PDT methodology. The table implies that several noteworthy standards organizations estimate tank life using PDT. These organizations do not reference this PDT methodology in the standards noted in the table.
