The Al Akaria Shopping Complex III, built by Sreco in downtown Riyadh, features a 108′ diameter/33-meter dome to be the major complex. The dome shape helps create building identity plus provides natural daylighting down through the large opening at the center of the building. The dome features a custom, blue tinted Lexan panel in the skylight system to provide a blue glow through the Lexan to reflect off the white walls inside. The exterior is finished in kynar paint for long term durability.

This dome was assembled on one side of the rooftop area and swung into place using one of the cranes used in the construction of the building itself. The lightweight aluminum was a major advantage on this project as it enabled the relatively low capacity crane, typically used for concrete pouring, to be able to lift the framework and swing it out over the 33 meter diameter opening which was nine stories in the air.

The Al-Araimi Shopping Complex in Muscat, Oman now features a unique combination of old and new. The center is one of the first American style shopping centers and features a large 60′ X 150′ atrium over the center of the three floors of shops. The Omni*Hub system forms a spaceframe that supports a unit membrane cladding system – an exterior membrane and an interior membrane with fiberglass insulation between them.

The membrane unit allows light to pass through and provides a unique clerestory effect with 15% light transmission around the perimeter and 3% on the roof area. The Omni*Hub system was assembled at one end of the atrium opening and rolled out to cover the area. The assembly crew used two cable pulleys to easily roll the spaceframe down the parapet walls.

The Al Faisaliah Center Project is CST’s second architectural dome in the Olaya district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, just down the road – The Al Akaria Shopping Center, was the first. This very prestigious project is a 700’/213 meter high multi-use office tower with a 78’/24 meter diameter glass clad geodesic globe near the top as a pristine world class restaurant.

This $350,000,000 development project by the King Faisal Foundation includes the main office, a 5 star hotel, residential accommodations, retail shopping mall, parking and much more. The architect, Sir Norman Foster, one of the world’s prominent architects, designed a structure that could be called the Eiffel Tower of Riyadh – a true signature structure. The CST team was chosen to do the design/build for a 24 meter 6 frequency dome with an insulated glass cladding system.

CST was selected over a number of other potential glazing suppliers based upon our global dome building experience and reputation. The all aluminum dome provided fast assembly in a challenging site condition.

This almost wing-like Omni*Hub arch structure clad with membrane is an appropriate shape and form selected by the architect to be the roof area at the new Alaska Sea Life Center in Sewell, Alaska. The membrane provides the natural light over the enclosure for the Puffins and our all-aluminum Omni*Hub system is ideal for the severe arctic weather conditions.

The structure covers approximately 5,400 square feet and was assembled in one piece and lifted into place being supported on just four columns. The membrane was placed on rolled formed arches to create an almost a saw tooth type of patterning, again to be representative of the shape of flight and the wing of a beautiful bird.

This is one of the many zoo projects that have been designed and built by the Conservatek team over the last 25 years and is the second project done with the Strand Hunt Team, the first being the Rain Forest Dome at the Woodland Zoo in Seattle, WA.
